A "gut" feeling is no longer just an adage; research in neuroscience demonstrates that a gut feeling is a biological reality. Emotions are a combination of neural, glandular, muscular, and mental changes. Emotions connected to painful, adverse experiences are stored deep within the cells of the body (Pert, 1997). Stressful/traumatic events that go continuously unexpressed, unprocessed, and misunderstood, can be absorbed within the cells of the body in an incoherent, fragmented manner, negatively impacting an individual for the rest of his/her life. In fact, it is suggested a misnomer to refer to the body and mind as separate entities. We should, instead, refer to our "bodymind!"

Get counseling to process the stressful events in your life. Experience body work such as massages and adjustments that help the body release stored memories. Eat foods that replenish the nutrients your body needs. Nurture your Spirit. Take care of your bodymind.
